Ritual

It was one of those rare days where they sky was magnificintly blue and you could see the moon. Many people simply felt an extra boost in their step with no understanding why or really even noticing. However two young men had been waiting for this day. They where one of the few who understood the significance of seeing both the sun and moon. They also knew that this day was even more important than even an astologist could ever forsee. It had nothing to do with conjunctions or the date, it had to do with the magickal energy. They carefully gathered their gear and headed out the back of their beach side home towards the shore.

Despite the brilliant weather the beach was deserted save a few off in the far distance. It was a secluded beach with about 6 beach front houses, each with about a kilometre between them. As the two reached the soft sand they stopped and carefully pulled out candles, two wands, two cups and various other ritual tools. Nodding in silence they moved around circling each other drawing complicated interlinking symbols into the sand. The water lapped at a few of the symbols but never disturbing them. As they completed the etchings five colours swirled around the lines and then seemed to fade. At that point the two took their places, one imbued with a silvery light, the other a golden light. They light the candles and placed them carefully down on the ground pushing them into the sand to keep them standing. They took a brief sip from their cups which they had filled with wine and then chanted in a language that was long forgotten. As they chanted their words got louder, the colours that surrounded them grew brighter and brighter until they were touching, dancing and swaying. The water reaching completly over the symbols on the ground lapping at their feet but still not distorting the symbols at all. As they finished their chant they took the last of the wine from their cups and called out a single name each. After that they fell down exhausted.

About an hour later they packed up their stuff and headed home.
"Do you think it worked Marc?" "I don't know Darryl, we shall have to see." They continued their journey in silence.

Elsewhere in a tower long hidden and protected by nature stood a room that was full of positive energy. There were two statues, showing they most beautiful of women you could ever have laid eyes upon carved in stone. These statues where of Godessess, one for the Sun, the other for the Moon. Years they had stood but there was no sign of age, they remained imaculate. One had deep red Rubies pressed into her eyes, the other deep blue Sapphires. They twinkled as the light reflected of those eyes and then they seemed to glow. A soft light shone from their eyes and then slowly took on shape. The shape then took on more colours and soon in the flesh standing before the statues were the women of the statues. They wore similar dresses but that was where it ended. One had long wavy strawberry blond hair that seemed wild and untaimed. She had soft brown skin like she was tanned and her dress was red with gold edgings and leaving little to the imagination as it was low cut and extremely daring, almost a challange. The other had dark black hair with blue undertones and it hung straight. Her skin was pale and white like alabaster. Her dress a midnight blue with silver edging, whilst not as daring as the first still beautiful. Slowly they opened their eyes and smiled at each other and then patted the statues fondly.

"We have been called."
"That hath not happened for a long time."
"Are you really going to talk so archaic?"
"It was hardly that archaic Kat, but no I won't, even if I do miss the 16th Century."
"I know Jade. Well shall we?" Kat pointed to the huge wooden and ornatly carved doors.
"We shall."

They stepped forward and each pushed upon a door, it swung open easily and widely. They were greeted by a face that was familar to them. It was a high priest to both the Goddesses, a rareness amonst their followers. Having become such however his life span had extended and they had always kept watch over him.
"Tim." They greeted warmly in unison and he bowed gracously before them.
"My Godessess, I heard the call, I have waited anxiously for your return."
"It is so nice to see you again Tim." Kat said hugging him and then allowing Jade to hug him.
"It has been a while," Tim said in agreement. "I have kept your rooms as always, I will allow you rest, I know the summoning drains you."
"Thank you Tim," Jade said gratefully and he showed them to their rooms.

Their rooms again matched their garments, warm tones for Kat and cool tones for Jade. They adjoined each other so the two were close, as to be expected from sisters. They hugged each other for a long time without expressing words before retiring to their rooms. They slept deeply and then woke several hours refreshed. They ate and then bid a tempory goodbye to Tim as they went to seek out the elements. Despite their Goddess status the one thing they didn't know was who had summoned as when the ritual begins they can no longer look upon the earth as they normally did. First they wanted to find out who, then they would find out why.

They rested well and then prepared themselves for their journey. Now that they were in human form there powers where different. This journey was more intensive than one that took place on land, they had to cross several planes of magick to reach the level upon which the elements resided, overlooking the world as much as they did. When they reached their destination they sat, rested and waited. They would not need to call upon the elements, the elements would know they were there and would arrive when they could. They did not have to take long. They appeared in pure force and colour, Yellow, Blue, Green, Red and White. They hovered in a colourful blur before taking on more visable forms of Elemantals. They greeted each other warmly before Kat interupted the silence.
"We need to know who summoned us and from where."
The elemantals nodded knowingly. They then formed a link with each other and Kat took Jade's hand at which point the Air elemental, with the help of the others stepped forward and showed them, showed them the faces, where they had cast the ritual and where in the world they were. Kat and Jade thanked them gratefully and then left them in peace. They held hands as they took the journey home to their tower saying nothing, simply enjoying the journey and each other's physical presence.

When they reached home they gave the names they had learned of the two casters and allowed Tim to find them. They were almost as tired as they had been from being summond. Another long rest and then they found Tim in the garden. He told them what he had found out.
"Woodlands University you say, what are they studying?"
"They are majoring in Medicine but take minors in both philosophy and mythology."
"Interesting."
"I have taken the liberty of enrolling you into the same classes. You have been enrolled as sisters and due to the requirement of needing a last name I have given mine. I also contacted a Priestess of your's Kat by the name of Bree. She has also heard your summoning and said she would be honoured to have you stay. I also packed some clothes for you to suit modern styles."
"Oh Tim you spoil us."
"No my Goddesses, you have spoilt me."

They left and after two days normal travel they had arrived to the city that Darryl and Marc lived in. They chatted idly as they waited for Bree.
"You had a hand in Woodlands if I remember correctly didn't you?" Kat asked, twisting her hair between her fingers teasing the men around.
"Yes. I did not want history to be forgotten."
"Some things should though."
"Do you really think so?"
Kat turned to look at Jade seriously. "We have been flying for the last couple of days and neither one of us meantioned the idea of approaching them directly and asking outright why we were summoned because we both remembered what happened last time. I would rather forget that."
"Perhaps," Jade said softly.
"Ahh, there is Bree." Kat pointed and they grabbed their bags to meet Bree.

The home of Kat's priestess was simple, yet comfortable. The walls were painted in a pale cream, with mahogany furniture and deep red cushions and upholstery, with gold trim and accents. Kat loved it, and settled into the bedroom Bree led her to instantly.
"I have tried to make the other bedroom a little less bright for you, my lady."
Bree showed Jade into the second bedroom, which had light pine furniture, and a pale blue bedspread.
"It's just fine, thank you, Bree."
"I went and bought the blue coverlet when I heard you were coming. I hope it's okay."
"It's fine," Jade reassured her.
Bree nodded, and left them to unpack.

Jade smiled as she investigated the clothing Tim had purchased for her - blue jeans, blue tops, a couple of jumpers, a bikini, a couple of skirts and a single deep blue, long-skirted dress, with pale blue and silver beading along the neckline of the strapless bodice. The last was obviously for a special occasion. No white, which would make her look washed out, and no black, which would make her look grey, and silver shoes and accessories. Jade was very pleased with Tim's choices.
Jade had just finished unpacking when Kat burst in through the doorway.
"Just look what I can get away with wearing!"
Kat was wearing a short black mini-dress - it had a deep, v-neckline, revealing Kat's substantial cleavage, and was skin-tight. Kat's hair hung in loose tumbled waves to her knees, and her matching red-gold eyes glowed.
Jade laughed.
"I don't think that's day wear, darling."
Kat pouted.
"But it's so terribly sexy!"
"But not day-wear. Find a skirt and top, and we'll get going."
Kat flounced out of the room, and Jade surveyed her new clothing. She selected a pair of tight blue jeans, and a soft, pale blue t-shirt that left her midriff exposed. She brushed out her straight black hair, admiring the way it fell, straight and smooth halfway down her back, then examined herself in the mirror.
She frowned.
The outfit looked stunning, but her skin wasn't its usual alabaster white. The grey tinge to her skin made her look unhealthy, and it was getting greyer as she watched.
"Kat?"
"Jade?"
Kat's bedroom was just next-door; She should have been within 15 metres, but the voice came from deep within the house.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm getting my hair cut."
"Where?"
"In the kitchen."

Jade followed Kat's voice, and paused just outside the door to the kitchen, watching her reflection in the window as her skin turned from grey to the pale white she preferred. When she was comfortable with the colour, Jade entered the kitchen, to find Kat standing on a chair, while Bree fussed around her with a pair of scissors. Kat was wearing a short black skirt, natural hose and a white form-fitting halter-neck shirt. On the floor around her were half-metre lengths of red-gold hair, glistening like spun silk in the rising sun. Her hair had been cut off at her hips.
"What are you doing?" Jade exclaimed.
"I'm getting my hair cut," Kat repeated, patiently.
"But why?"
"Bree tells me that people don't have hair to their knees any more. And as we want to blend in... She's cutting it to my waist."
"So short?"
"She tells me it will be considered very long."
"But your hair!"
"I know."
The two goddesses shared a look. They both knew how much Kat's hair meant to her, and what it meant for her to cut it off. Tim had cut it from ankles to knees before they left, crying all the while, and now it was even shorter.
"It will grow back," Kat said, eventually. "You wanted me?"
Jade glanced at Bree.
"I just missed you near me," Jade said carefully.
Kat understood, instantly.
"I'm sorry. I didn't realise the kitchen was so far away."
"It's more the number of walls in between, I think."

Bree wasn't paying any attention to the conversation of the goddesses, fussing with getting Kat's hair straight, which was a good thing, for her. The sun finally struggled over the horizon, filtering into the kitchen, and Kat suddenly burst into flame - or so it appeared. Her golden skin glowed and her hair shimmered like a nimbus of red-gold light that hurt the eyes to look upon. A moment later, Jade's skin glowed in response, the alabaster white glimmering in response to Kat's blazing light. Bree gasped and fell to the floor, pressing her forehead to the tiles.
Kat looked down in bemusement.
"Bree?"
"You're glowing," Jade pointed out, switching effortlessly to ancient Greek.
"It's sunrise," Kat shrugged.
"It hurts their eyes, remember."
"Oh, yeah," Kat laughed. "I forgot. It's all those idiots who liked the idea of their followers bashing their heads on the floor for no good reason. I forget that mine actually had a reason for starting the whole ridiculous spectacle."
"Well you shouldn't have let that King see you at sunset," Jade replied unsympathetically.
"As I recall, I dismissed him before then."
"Humans," Jade shrugged, as Kat's glow slowly faded as the sun rose into the sky. "They never do what they're told."
"True."
"Sun's up. Stop the glowing, please."
Kat concentrated, and her skin returned to its usual golden tan. A moment later, Jade's skin also stopped glowing.
"Thank you."
"I'm sorry," Kat replied. "I don't make you glow on purpose, you know."
"I know," Jade smiled. "I can put up with a little reflective glowing twice a day, because I enjoy having you near, and having you around makes me beautiful, but the glowing is a little distinctive."
"I'm sorry."
"It's the nature of the moon to reflect the sun," Jade shrugged. "You can't help it any more than I can. And like I've said a thousand times - I like white skin. So stay close."
Kat laughed.
"You know I will. We're lucky we have the same lectures and things at this university, I hadn't counted on walls lessening our range of separation before you start to fade."
Jade shrugged.
"I'm sure we'll manage," she smiled. "You will have to be careful around sunset though."
"I'll try and be somewhere the glowing won't show," Kat promised, as Bree slowly raised herself from the floor. "You're lucky you don't glow."
"I do, when you do! But I know what you mean. It makes appearing human easier, not to glow with the rising and setting of the sun, or the waxing and waning of the moon."
Bree looked at her Goddess, and bowed her head.
"I have finished with your hair, my lady."
Kat took a few seconds to switch her thinking from ancient Greek to modern English, then she smiled.
"Thank you."
She jumped lightly from the chair, flashing Jade her white suspender and lace-topped hose.
"Real stockings," Jade commented. "Feeling a touch Sekhmet today are we?"
"The Egyptians had a better idea about me than a lot of others. But even they thought my main aspect was male. Idiots."
"They weren't bad," Jade replied, "but they did attribute a lot of the main power to the boys. And they did make me share with Isis."
Kat shrugged.
"You two seem to get along pretty well. Anyway, I'm going to unpack until it's time to go to this University. Try on some of the lovely clothes Tim has got me. I have this gorgeous red dress, darling, with beads and sequins all over it and a split up to here! You have to see it!" Kat placed a finger on her left thigh, about three inches below her hip.
The dress would most likely flash her stocking tops, Jade thought with a smile, which was probably why Kat liked it. She always said there was no point wearing sexy underwear unless someone got to see it.
"We should have breakfast," Jade attempted to distract her.
"Why?"
"Because, we're in human form, and humans have to eat."
"Oh, alright. Fruit, honey, grain bread," Kat instructed Bree.
"Darling, we're going to have to do things for ourselves."
"Oh, what a chore," Kat sighed. "Alright, let's do it then."

The university was a large sprawling thing, with lots of buildings, but also lots of grassed area with trees and flowerbeds.
"Well, I'm glad they didn't ruin the area completely," Jade commented as she and Kat stepped out of the administration building.
They had their timetables and student cards, and half an hour before their first class - a lecture and tutorial on comparative mythology. The boys were in different tutorials for comparative mythology and for philosophy, so the girls had elected to split up for the tutorials - the classes were next to each other, so Jade fading wouldn't be a problem. They had flipped a coin - Kat had class with Darryl, and Jade had class with Marc for the comparative mythology class, and they had swapped for the philosophy tutorial.

They sat in the courtyard in the morning sunlight, and Jade became aware of the tingling along her skin that she was about to start glowing. She glanced at Kat, who was sitting, face raised to the morning sun, her hair glistening brightly, mere seconds away from bursting into joyous flame.
"Kat," she said, warningly, and the tingling instantly stopped, the sparkle in Kat's hair dulling down to a more human glistening.
"Dammit. Sorry."
"Should we sit in the shade?"
"No," Kat protested, eyes closed.
"Kat."
Kat opened her eyes, the red-gold glow glistening in the morning light.
"You need better control than that. Maybe we should get you contact lenses."
"I can't help the glowing," Kat protested. "It creeps up on me."
"I know, but we have to not let it. If you got some contact lenses, the glowing would be muted."
"I can control it when I concentrate."
"Did Tim get you any lenses?"
"Yes," Kat admitted reluctantly.
"At least for a few days, then? Until you have it under control?"
Kat sighed as she lifted her red handbag onto the bench in front of her and started to rummage through it. She found the box of contact lenses, and quickly popped them in, blinking several times.
"I hate these."
She turned her bright green eyes onto Jade.
"They look nice. You get a bit of golden glow through them, they're very sexy."
"Really?" Kat grinned, and began rummaging for a mirror.
Jade hid her smile - she knew exactly how to manipulate her sister.
"Wow - Hello!" Kat breathed, abandoning the search for a mirror. "Mmm, mmm, yummy yummy. Hello, darling, think you could get those jeans a little tighter?"
Jade leaned casually back on one arm and tilted her head back to see who had caught Kat's attention.
