hey'd been in Bangkok for two weeks when Mark and Sarah started organising things for their stall. The preparations reminded Kat of Jade's tarot cards, and they sat in her room one morning as Kat shuffled the cards thoroughly, thinking about her immediate future. Then she handed the cards back to Jade, who dealt them, and looked them over quickly.
"That's odd," she commented. "You have a very mixed reading."
As she spoke, her amulet began to glow light blue. As she went deeper into the reading, the light became almost white. She pointed at the cards as she spoke.
"You immediate future holds a lot of things. Travel. Betrayal. Forgiveness. Knowledge. Work. Success."
Jade shut her eyes for a moment, and the amulet glowed with a bright white light. "You and Leo are going to have a fight. He'll be jealous again, but it's not his fault. There's an external factor involved, I don't know what it is. But once it is revealed, you'll forgive Leo and everything will be Ok again. You're also going to win something. Money? A trip? Oh... a grant, for a field trip. You're going to travel somewhere. Overseas? America? To some mountains. To Peru. You didn't tell me you applied for a grant," scolded Jade, mid-reading.
"Keep going," Kat replied, declining to answer.
"So, you're going to Peru. Not for a while yet though. And we're coming. You'll have 4 companions, us and Nic. That's where you'll discover something. I don't know what, but it's important."
Jade opened her eyes again.
"You didn't tell me you applied for a grant to go to Peru."
"I haven't got it, yet," Kat replied. "But all Incan history is oral now, and if I wanted information for my thesis, I had to go there."
"Fair enough, I suppose."
"You amulet activated."
"Oh. Good."
Kat laughed, then Maya banged on their door. The girls jumped to their feet, and Jade packed up her cards as Kat unlatched the door.
"Your parents and I are going out again today," she said. "We're meeting a couple of people for the seminar, and we'll be back this evening."
"Ok," replied Kat with a smile. "We'll probably stay around the hotel today anyway."
"Good," Maya replied, then went back towards her and Nicole's room.
Kat shook her head, and jumped into the shower before Jade could get it. Through the steam, she told Jade what Maya had said, and they discussed how they'd spend their day. Jade wanted to go back to the gym, and this time, Kat agreed to go with her. Maya, Sarah and Marc left, Nicole said she was studying, so Kat, Jade and the boys had breakfast by the pool alone. The boys agreed to go to the gym, and after breakfast, that's where they went.
Kat sat on one of the mats and meditated while the others exercised. Jade climbed up several ropes, then stood on one of the rafters.
"Come down from there," said Darryl, not liking her being up so high.
Jade laughed and took several steps along the beam. Kat opened her eyes and looked up.
"Don't worry, Darryl. Jade and I have been doing things like that since we were little."
Just then, with a short scream, Jade slipped and fell. Kat jumped to her feet with a gasp, and Darryl cried out. But then, just as suddenly as she'd slipped, Jade's fall halted, and she stood frozen in mid-air. Leo grabbed one of the heavy thick mats and started pulling it over to under Jade, but it seemed to be unnecessary. As they watched, Jade stepped down, seeming to walk down an invisible spiral staircase. Kat, Darryl and Leo collectively held their breath as she descended, until she was standing on the ground. Then Jade's knees collapsed, and she sat heavily on the floor. Kat also sat quickly.
"Don't you *ever* do that to me again," she scolded breathlessly. "You scared the life out of me!"
Jade looked across from her position on the floor, and began to laugh helplessly.
"Well, what do you know," she said. "I can fly."

From a dark corner, the demon watched, scowling. They were discovering things far too quickly for his, or his master's, liking. It was almost time to do something about that. The demon shimmered away from the gym. Further back in the shadows, Nicole frowned. She'd seen the demon three times now, and it was getting fairly forward. Perhaps it was time she did something about that. Nicole tested the air for the remnants of the demon's shimmer, but there wasn't enough left for her to trace. She went back to her room instead.
The foursome were quite fascinated by what just happened after the initial
shock had settled. They decided to see if they could learn more about their
powers and decided that the gym may not be the best place to do it. So
after packing up their gear they headed back to the hotel agreeing to meet
in Jade and Kat's room after a shower.
Jade and Kat got back to their room first. Jade dumped her gym bag on her
bed grabbed some clothes and headed towards the shower. Kat grabbed a book
and decided to settle down on her bed. As soon as she put her head on the
pillow she heard a yelp. She got up rather quickly and staring at her bed
wondered where the sound came from. She couldn't see anything and thought
that she must of heard it. When she went to lay down again she heard the
noise again.
"Don't even think about it" the voice said
"Pardon?" Kat replied trying to locate the sound and started lifting the
sheets of her bed and then she lifted her pillow.
"What do you think your staring at" came a testy reply from red dragon
holding it's tail. "Haven't you seen a dragon before?"
"Actually come to think of it... no"
"Figures"
At this point in time Jade came out of the bathroom clean and changed and
spotted the messy bed and then the dragon.
"Ah Kat, what is a dragon doing on your bed, more to the point how did a
dragon get on your bed"
"I don't know." Kat replied then turned to the dragon "Who are you and why
are you here"
"I am Kai and you my dear Kat summoned me"
"I did?" Kat asked
"Yes, you know that little amulet thing of yours, when you awoke the powers
within you summoned me and here I am. It took me awhile because you left
home and flew to Bangkok."
At this point Kat burst out laughing picked the little dragon up and hugged
him. The Dragon stopped pulling sour faces after a bit wriggled free and
sat upon Kat's shoulder. Within a few minutes the dragon and Kat had bonded
and Jade just stared wondering what she had missed.
Leo and Darryl arrived shortly after and stared at the dragon on Kat's
shoulder.
"Kat are you aware you have a red thing on your shoulder?" Leo asked
"It's not a *red thing* it's my dragon, his name is Kai and be nice cos he
will be with us a lot."
"Wont he be kinda noticible?" Darryl asked
At this point Kai flew off Kat's shoulder howevered just by her head and
disappeared into a red ball of fire then changed form again and settled back
on Kat's shoulder.
"Oki so you can stop being a dragon but you can still be seen."
"Actually no, only you four can see me in hidden form and that is because of
your amulets."
"Oh"
Kai was a very clever, strong and powerful dragon despite how tiny he was.
He was a special fire breathing dragon and was the protection part of Kat's
amulet. He also helped them find other powers. Leo already knew about his
healing but Kai helped him find out about helping calm people's emotions.
He helped Kat focus her anger and her courage but Darryl he couldn't help.
Darryl was the only one who hadn't tapped into his power.
There was a knock on the door and Nicole entered. She told them that Sarah
and Marc wanted to see them about the seminar starting tomorrow. It had
been pushed forward a few days and they weren't entirely ready. The troup
headed outside and Kai waved at Nicole when no-onw was watching. She smiled
back at Kai and then followed behind.

By the time they had gotten to the lounge Kai had changed into his little
firey ball and was flying not far from Kat. Kat was very happy to have Kai.
With both Leo and the dragon Kat had been able to be calmer than she
normally was. She was feeling very happy. No-one noticed a little green
ball of energy fly towards Leo and enter him. Nicole looked suddenly to her
right as spotted the shadow among the pot plants. It was the demon again
and he was grinning like he just achieved something. Nicole stared at him
trying to work out what he had done as his grin said he had definatly done
something. He grin broadened as he spotted Nicole and then waved before
shimmering away. Nicole wanted to follow him but she knew she couldn't now
as she still didn't want to blow her cover. Instead she sniffed the air.
It had traces of a sin ball.
The demon had gone back to basics Nicole realised then turned to look at the
group of people by her. Kai was looking at her now for he had sensed it to
but neither of them could tell who had gotten the sin ball or what sin it
was.
Marc and Sarah asked them to go and help set up the stall, which Jade and Leo did swiftly. Kat gave up on helping when she was carrying one bit of wood, and Jade and Leo both passed her carrying 10. At that point, Kat unfolded one of the chairs, and sat in the sun, murmuring quietly to Kai. Darryl sat at her feet, listening and joining in on the conversation on occasion. Once the stall was assembled, Jade and Leo joined Kat and Dazz on the grass until Marc, Sarah, Nic and Maya came out to have lunch with them.
The eight of them, plus Kai, went to the hotel restaurant and began discussing the next day's activity. Leo offered to help Sarah with her healing, and she accepted, although she wasn't entirely sure that he would be able to help. He seemed confident though, so she decided that she'd accept his offer of help. Jade agreed to start her tarot readings at 9:30 and go through to 1:00, have an hour break for lunch, then do readings again until 5:30 when the stall closed. Maya would be taking yoga classes of up to 15 people every 2 hours, with the classes going for an hour, with 45 minutes scheduled for discussions after the class. Sarah would be doing healing, and Marc massages in private rooms, and Kat had offered to act as secretary, making the appointments for people who came to the stall. Nicole decided to go demon hunting, so she said that she'd probably be spending the afternoon and tomorrow studying, and Darryl offered to share the appointment recording with Kat. Once all the details had been sorted out, the topic turned to what they'd be doing that afternoon. Marc and Sarah needed to set up the private rooms for their respective practices, and Maya needed to set up the room for her yoga class as well. Darryl offered to help Maya, and Jade and Leo offered to help Sarah and Marc. Once the others had volunteered, Kat declared that as she was fairly useless physically, she'd be going shopping, alone. Marc frowned, and protested, but Kat was adamant.
"Don't worry, Daddy, I'll have Kai."
"What?" asked Marc, confused.
"Kai. He's my dragon. He'll look after me."
"Honey, I know you had pet dragons when you were little, but don't you think you're a little old for that now?"
"Surely not," Kat replied, in a teasing tone.
Marc shook his head and let it lie. After lunch, Kat and Nicole went up to their rooms, and the others headed over to the building where the rooms for the seminar were. Looking out the window, Leo saw Kat leaving the hotel with her bag and Kai sitting on her shoulder, and frowned. Kat had trusted the little dragon very swiftly, and he didn't like it. There wasn't anything he could do about it at the moment though, so he returned to shifting screens, chairs and tables for Marc and Sarah.

After she was sure that nobody was going to come looking for her, Nicole reviewed what she knew of the demon she was hunting. With all the information she'd collected, she was fairly sure the demon would either be watching the person he'd infected, or the one who was alone. Kat was the only one who was alone at the moment, and she was being protected by Kai, so Nicole decided to go down and keep an eye on the other three as they worked. She slipped down to watch them, staying in the shadows so nobody would spot her. Sure enough, after a few minutes watching, she sensed the demon watching. Leo was watching Kat out the window as she left to go shopping, and to Nicole's vision, he momentarily glowed green. So it was Leo who was infected, Nicole mused. With envy too, it seemed. Now that she knew who was infected, and with which sin, she knew that she and Kai could cure him. It would mean revealing herself, but she was prepared to do that now. With no further use for the demon, Nicole allowed him to see her watching him. Instead of the confrontation she expected though, the demon shimmered away. Nicole cursed softly. That was going to make things difficult.

Kat was browsing stalls in the Bangkok market with Kai perched on her shoulder. She'd already bought several long skirts, dresses and sarongs, and was now looking at the jewellery. The retail therapy had helped get rid of her bad mood, and she'd bought a small carved wooden wolf for Jade, a sarong for Nic, a Thai copy of Darryl's favourite book, and was looking for something to get for Leo. She'd rejected several rings and necklaces already, and was browsing the final tray of rings when Kai dug his claws sharply into her shoulder. Kat gasped, and looked up into the face of a stranger, who was leering at her.
Kat looked at the stranger and wondered why no-one seemed to be noticing a 6
foot demon in the midst of the stalls. It reached out with it's cloak and
pulled her into it before shimmering and taking Kat with her. Kai
unfortunately was left behind and sniffed the shimmering trail. He knew
exactly how to get there and he knew that if he didn't find Nicole and the
others really quick Kat could be in real trouble. He flew fast considering
how little he was and how tiny his wings are but he was a dragon and size
really had no relevance. He found Nicole watching the group still cursing
and landed on her shoulder. She jumped a little.
"What the hell are you doing here?" She whispered
"He took Kat to the 3rd realm" Kai replied and Nicole swore again
"We will have to take the other but we need to heal Leo first."
"We don't have time" Kai replied
Nicole grabbed Kai of her shoulder and held him facing Leo. She felt Kai
struggle at first but when he stopped she knew he had seen what they needed
to heal.
"Oki so we need to heal Leo first. How are you going to explain though why
those three suddenly leave, someone is bound to ask questions, more to the
point Marc, Maya and Sarah are going to ask questions."
"I know but that will just have to wait"
Nicole stepped into sight and went straight to Leo with Kai. The others
watched astonished as Nicole and Kai blended in image and healed Leo. For
that brief moment even Marc, Maya and Sarah could see Kai. They watched as
the green ball left and Nicole and Kai become two again. Kai flew after the
sin ball and then blew some fire onto it before eating it. He burped and
then grinned sheepishly. Nicole just laughed and then reminded him that he
would get indigestion and Kai replied that he couldn't help himself as they
tasted so nummy roasted.
Marc, Maya and Sarah watched everything happen, unfolding in front of them
like a dream. Nicole apologised said she would explain later and then
grabbed Darryl, Leo by the hands while Kai perched on Jade's shoulder and
they all faded out of the realm.

Kat had slumped to the floor after the realm shift but found her feet and
pushed the demon off her in anger and disgust. It laughed at her and then
pushed back which made Kat fall and slide across the floor. She felt her
amulet warm against her skin and knew it was glowing. She was a little
scared but drew courage from her amulet. Kat got up and then from instinct
alone she fought the demon. Her amulet kept glowing brighter and brighter
as Kat fought. She used her everything she had and attacked. Soon she felt
like the amulet and her was one and she too glowed with the amulet. She
struck the demon over and over again and then like she was bored with him
toyed with him. Eventually Kat then grabbed the demon and pulled it close
to her wrapping her arms around him before bursting into flames and burning
him to a crisp as it cried out to it's master.
She turned surprised by the sound of clapping. Only then did she notice
another figure.
"Well done Kathryn but this fight isn't over. You may have found my demon
easy to kill but I wont be so easy"
"Maybe you can crush Kat my dear fellow but will you be able to do so with
us here to"
Kat spun around again to be faced with Nicole, Kai, Jade, Darryl and Leo.
They all moved to stand beside her and Kat turned back to the figure.
"Why Nicole darling so good to see you again but I can't stay for I have an
appointment I really must go to and so I must dash. You understand don't
you dear?"
The figure disappeared. Everyone else then looked at Kat and she irritably
asked what they were staring at.
"Kat you have entirely tapped into your powers and are glowing a tad red at
the moment" Kai informed her
"Oh" was all she could say
"Great" Darryl said
"What?"
"Kat has totally tapped into her powers and I haven't even seemed to have
tapped into any of mine"
Nicole just laughed and kissed Darryl on the cheek
"Don't be in such a hurry Dazz, they will come, trust me they will come"
***
The second shift through realms seemed to affect all but Kat. Nicole said
that was because she had tapped completely into her powers.
"That brings me back to a very big question Nicole. Why, how do you know
all this?"
"That's something I would like to know too" Marc said.
Sarah and Maya were staring at Nicole trying to work out what had happened
and Marc couldn't seem to get his eyes of Kai. Nicole suggested they best
went upstairs to her room and they agreed. As they headed up the stairs Kat
turned to Marc.
"It's really rude to stare dad"
"But you really do have a dragon on your shoulder"
"Yes daddy I do, it's not that big a deal"
Kat laughed and then squeezed Marc's hand before bounding up a few more
stairs to catch up with Leo.
