Jade moved over and sat next to Darryl on the couch, and Glenn stood up. He walked over to Kat and held her tightly to him. Jade noticed a couple of tears glistening in his eyes as Kat's arms crept around his waist, but said nothing. When they finally separated, Kat's eyes were dry, and Jade was rather startled by the expression on her face. There was a strange ferocity lurking beneath her calm exterior. Jade was slightly started by the change in her usually serene cousin. She wasn't the only one that noticed the change. Glenn was looking at Kat strangely, and Darryl was looking slightly apprehensive. Peter was looking at Kat like he'd never seen her before. Erick was the only one who didn't look surprised at the alteration in attitude. He leaned towards Darryl.
"She's done this before?" he murmured in question.
"Yes," Darryl replied, not taking his eyes off Kat. "Where we lived before. Some guys were harassing her, or something. I'm not sure exactly what happened, she never actually told me."
Jade looked over, startled. She'd never heard about *that* particular story. In response to Jade's questioning look, Darryl put his arm around her.
"She asked me not to talk about it."
"What happened to the guys?" Erick asked.
Darryl paused before answering.
"Well... they were still alive."
Kat interrupted.
"I'm not going to just sit here while he picks us off one by one," she announced. "I say we attack. What do you say?"
Kat's energy seemed to infuse everyone in the room. Jade was the first to stand.
"Let's go."

It had taken the better half of the day to gather all the things they thought they would need. They had lunch at the cafe, and then trekked to the beck at the bottom of the hill, where everything (as far as they knew) had started.
When they arrived at the clearing, the group looked at each other.
"Now what?" asked Darryl, looking around.
Everyone's eyes turned to Kat.
"Base camp?" she suggested
"Is the evil near here though?"
"Oh, it's here. Can't you smell it?"
"No, but I'll take your word for it."
Together, they set up camp and Erick looked up at the sky.
"It's noon. I'd say daylight is our ally, wouldn't you?"
"Yes. Let's go. That way."
Kat led the way, and the others followed.
They found themselves standing in front of a cave, and stood in a circle to make plans. It was decided that Kat and Peter would go in first, followed by Jade and Glenn, who would be followed by Darryl & Erick. Because Kat seemed to have sharpened senses at the present point in time, she'd lead the way. Peter would stay alert for a presence with his mind skills, and if he found one, try and persuade it to stay where it was. When they found it - whatever it may be - Jade would freeze it, and Glenn would lift it off the ground, and then they'd kill it. How they were going to accomplish that last bit, they weren't quite sure, but they figured that they'd work it out when they got there. Erick would call out a warning if he got any premonitions, and Darryl would be around in case anyone got hurt.
Together, they moved into the cave...
It was rather dark and they couldn't see much. There were a few lamps along the way but none of them were alight. They trekked carefully.
"Away from the walls" Erick yelled out
Everyone scrambled away from the walls they had been using as a guide. A few people triped over each other. Two bursts of flame flew along the walls making all that was along alight with flame. A few bats that had been hanging off the wall were suddenly crispy and dead laying on the floor.
"Glad you worked out how to use your powers Erick" Peter said
Everyone lauged nervously. The moved ahead again and Erick turned to Darryl.
"Actually that was a gut feeling" he whipered
"Well maybe that is your way to use the gift" Darryl replied
"Hadn't thought of that actually"
The run to catch up with everyone else. When they get there they notice Kat is gone.
"Where is she?" Darryl demanded
"She touched a bat and changed form, she didn't think about the fact that if the bat is dead maybe she will die" Jade exteneded her hands and held out a very crisp bat Darryl immediatly held out his hands and a green light extended from his fingers and spun around the bat lifting it off Jade's hands and rotating around the bat and enormous speed. The Bat started to flap it's wings and the green light stop spinning around it and instead seeped into it.
"Kat, please be careful when you do that"
The bat squeeked in reply and flew of into the night.
"She said sorry and that she will be right back" Peter said
"Peter, this may be a big long shot but can you try to see through her" Jade asked
"How do you mean?" He asked
"Like you sit in her mind seeing what she sees" Glenn replied picking up on where Jade was headed
"I'll try"
Peter sat down and closed his eyes. He followed the mind link he had with Kat and soon found himself in Kat's mind.
***
"Hey Peter, you seep into that section of my mind I will kill you"
"That's okay, just let me see"
"I'm a bat Peter, we can't see"
Peter laughed
"Hey, that makes my head ring" Kat said loosing her direction of flight.
Peter stops rather quickly.
"Here let me talk through you" Kat said
***
"I/we are flying through a tunnel. It is very empty apart from a few animals. Most appear dead. There is a fork in the tunnel. Going left will be a dead end. In the right is a seat / throne. There is something sitting on it. To the right there is a rack of something, a human..."
"Get out of there" Erick said calmly
"I/we feel a will, a pull on us. Pushing away"
Peter suddenly opens his eyes and shakes his head
"Kat's flying back but I suggest we meet her halfway just in case" he said
They all nod and agree except for Erick
"No" He says
"No? What the hell do you mean no? There is no way in hell I am leaving her there with that evil, that bastard" Glenn yelled at Erick
"Glenn shut up!" Jade said
Glenn looked at her suprised
"We don't have time to argue, we are a group and if someone has something important to say let them"
Glenn nods
"Sorry Erick"
"That's okay. She has to be there. He must think we can't function when one of us is away from the rest. He didn't sorry I refraise that, he *can't* feel Peter when he is in Kat's mind."
"Why is that? Do you know"
"I think it has something to do with love, Peter loves Kat as a sister and so in that action of love by him respecting her mind the evil can't sense it. Evil can't sense love, it can only kill him."
"Are you saying that if we attack he will win?" Glenn asks
"In essence yes"
"Does that not mean we have to love it?"
"Yes"
The ponder for awile.
"Why do we do stuff like sky diving" Jade asks
"Because of the way fear invokes a reaction within us?" Peter says
"Exactly. And why do we love watching things like ER or scary movies"
Silence
"Because we like watching the bad guy loose. There is no movie without a bad guy is there?" Jade asks
"I guess not"
"We love the bad guy whether we have realised it or not"
A scream fills the cave shaking the walls, the ground and the ceiling. Dirt falls down onto them.
"He doesn't like that notion Jade" Erick says
"To the gypsy children, remember you can't defeat evil with evil you have to defeat it with love... your love" Jade quotes silently
***
Kat flies around in circles trying to get her bearings after the scream this monster had let out. Kat keeps trying to fly out of the tunnel she is in but seems to keep coming across this wall she knew wasn't there before. She silently yells out help mentally hoping that Peter will hear her. She flies upwards and holds onto the ceiling. It takes her a while to get used to being what would be upside in human form but what is rather natural in bat form. She listens to her surroundings.
The evil that is sitting on the throne changes form to James and flexs his arms. He then walks over to the human that is on the rack and reaches into the throat then swallows what it grabs out. After a few gulps the evil, the new James speaks.
"Hope you don't mind me borrowing your voice" The evil laughs and then heads out of the cave.
Kat sents a mental thought to Peter more despretly.
"Peter if you hear this, please relink with me, I need to talk to you, URGENTLY!!!"
***
Peter spins around looking for something then stays still.
"What's going on Peter?" Darryl asks
"Kat... She's trying to reach me."
From around the corner comes the evil in James' body. He bowls them all over.
"Oh thank heavens, it's horrible in there, I thought I would never get out" He pants
"James!" Jade cried and leaped up to hug him.
"Don't touch me!" James cried, stepping beck before Jade could touch him. "I'm hurt, see?"
James showed them a wound in his side.
"Oh, that looks painful," Darryl said. "Here, let me."
Darryl reached out his hands, but James backed away.
"It's not that bad, it just hurts sometimes. Let's get out of here."
The others were looking at each other in confusion. James was acting *very* strangely.
"We can't, Kat's up there," replied Glenn, looking around.
"Kat? Up there? I didn't see her."
"She was hiding," Jade cut in quickly, flashing a warning look towards the others.
Peter had been trying to get in contact with Kat, and his brow was furrowed in concentration.
"Well if she was up there, I don't think she'll be in very good shape. The tunnel caved in just back there."
Peter suddenly opened his eyes and shook his head. He caught Glenn's eyes, and nodded his head towards the tunnel.
"Why don't you and I go take a look up there, Glenn? See if we can find Kat?"
"I'll go. It's not far, right, James?"
"No, it's not far... There's no point though, the cave in was pretty big..."
"That's my girlfriend you're talking about James, I'd say there's a point," Glenn replied somewhat heatedly.
The evil in James smiled cruelly.
"You're right... go look, if it will make you feel better."
Glenn walked over to Peter, and knelt to remove a torch from his backpack.
"She's not far. Use your power to unblock the tunnel, and come back quickly. That *isn't* James."
Glenn nodded, and headed up the tunnel.
Glenn reached the cave in and quickly began removing dirt and rocks from the mouth of the tunnel. When the hole was big enough, he stepped through, and saw the remains of what used to be James. He turned away in disgust.
"Kat?"
"Glenn," said Kat, from behind him.
Glenn turned, and hugged Kat tightly.
"Are you OK?"
"Yes... He... James... He..."
"I know, sweetie. Come on, we have to get back there. The others are alone with him."
Kat took a deep breath.
"Ok, let's go."
"But I don't understand, James," said Darryl. "Just let me look at it."
"No, I told you, it's not that bad."
Darryl was getting frustrated, which was exactly what the evil wanted.
"If it's not that bad, then why not let me see it?"
Glenn walked back into the circle, with Kat. Jade jumped up and hugged her.
"Thank God you're Ok," she said, hugging her tightly.
Kat smiled at her.
"Play along," she murmured in Jade's ear. "That *isn't* James. Don't tell Darryl, just love him."
Jade looked puzzled for a minute, but nodded.
"James," Kat said warmly. "You're Ok! I thought he got you..."
Kat moved towards James with her arms open for a hug. Once again, James backed off.
"You can't hug me, it hurts."
"Oh, did it hurt you? Let me see. Darryl can fix it."
"No, it's not that bad," the evil in James replied.
"Glenn," Kat said calmly, and Glenn stepped forward.
A red glow extended from Glenn's hands, and wrapped around James, lifting him in the air and binding his arms and legs to his side.
"Heal him, Dazz," said Peter, moving over to Erick, and murmuring in his ear.
Darryl lifted his hands and green light spilled from his hands and surrounded the captive James.
The second the green mist touched James, he screamed, and transformed into a black mist. Darryl, who was concentrating on healing, didn't notice. His eyes were closed and he was concentrating fiercely. The others concentrated on Darryl, loving him, but still watched in horror as the black mist writhed in pain. It changed form several times, before finally settling on a single human form, and screaming in abject pain and anguish. Then, suddenly, it dissipated into fine gray ash.
Darryl looked up, exhausted, only to see a fine gray scattering of ash settling over the floor.
"What happened?"
"It was the evil. It had assumed James' form. The love you had for James which would have allowed you to heal him, destroyed it. The love we had for you, stopped you being destroyed."
"Oh," Darryl replied quite calmly, and sat down heavily.
Erick and Kat, who were closest, grabbed him before he collapsed.
"We have to get him outside. Let's move."
The others gathered the equipment, and together the group moved out into the afternoon sunlight.
While Darryl recovered his strength, the others sat with him, and talked. It wasn't long before an elderly woman came walking towards them. They watched her warily, and she smiled at them, and held out a book.
"My name is Kate Porter," she said. "I can't begin to tell you how glad I am that my story has finally come to an end."
The book in her hands flicked through it's pages, then fell to the ground as the woman vanished. Jade walked over, and picked it up.
"The Gypsy Stones"

One week later, the group gathered at Jade's house. Kat was the first to arrive, and Jade was sitting on her floor, the book closed in her lap.
"Hey," Kat said softly. "Miss me?"
"Always," Jade replied, before opening her eyes and standing to give Kat a hug.
"You finish the book?"
"Yeah. Isn't it sad?"
"Yeah. Are the others here yet?"
The doorbell rang, and both girls smiled.
"I'd say that would be them," Kat replied, and they moved downstairs to let the boys in.
The group of 6 moved up to Jade's room, and sat in a circle.
"So," said Glenn. "Are you girls going to tell us what this was all about?"
"Jade's the story teller," Kat replied. "She can tell it."
Jade drew herself up, and began to speak...
...Once upon a time there lived a young girl, named Kate Porter. She lived in a small town in the middle of nowhere named Carosue. Young Kate was very beautiful, with long dark hair and dark eyes, a result of her gypsy heritage. Kate was also the daughter of a wealthy merchant, and unlike most ladies of the time, was educated, so that she could do her father's bookkeeping for him. Kate's talents for singing out-passed even her beauty and intelligence, and she added to her father's wealth by singing in the local tavern each night. As Kate approached her 16th birthday, her father began to entertain suitors for her. One of her suitors was a cruel man whose name was Jerimiah. Kate did not love him, and was worried that her father would promise her to this man, as he was very rich and powerful. Kate arranged with her best friend, Andrew, that if her father betrothed her to this man, together they would flee and marry, so the betrothal would be void.
On the morn of Kate's 16th birthday, Kate's father announced her betrothal to one Jerimiah Trisk, and immediately handed her over to him. That same morning, Andrew was arrested for treason, and taken away. Kate and Jerimiah Trisk were soon married, and reluctantly, Kate moved in with Jerimiah, but she did not love him. After one year, Kate became pregnant. It was Jerimiah's hope that Kate's pregnancy would bring them closer together, but instead it drew them further apart. Jerimiah did not know that one day whilst cleaning their house, Kate had found the secret door in their home, and the secret passage which led to the cave by the beck. Upon seeing the alter and sacrificial remains that littered that unholy place, Kate knew without a doubt that she could never love this man. She read his notes, and found his plans to sacrifice her and their child in order to achieve immortality, and decided that she could not let this happen.
One year and 6 months since the date of her betrothal, Kate went down to the beck, carrying a kitchen knife, her diary, and a quill. Once there, she gathered 6 stones, one for each month of her pregnancy, and placed them around her open diary. Kate punctured her wrist with the knife, and wrote the beginning of her story in the diary with her blood, and then began to sing. In doing so, she damned Jerimiah Trisk to a life alone. She sung as though her heart would break, of all the love she had for everything in the world, excepting Jerimiah Trisk. Upon the conclusion of her song, Kate gave up her fight for life, and died by the stream, her blood flowing over the book and stones.
Jerimiah Trisk had returned home early, only to find the secret passage open and the house empty. Knowing that Kate would have seen everything, he gathered his sacrificial knife and hurried through the passage. He was in his alter room when Kate died. Instantly his heart turned to stone, and he was cursed to eternal life as something less than human, all his love gone, never to return. The evil that was once Jerimiah Trisk thrived upon evil and discord, abhorring love and trust, for what he could not have, he wished no one to have.
And so the 6 gypsy stones were created. The Gods imbued the stones with magical properties, to aid those who would destroy the evil that was Jerimiah Trisk. These stones were placed in areas around Carosue, where 6 worthy people would find them and go against the evil, group by group until it was overturned. Many failed, until one day, a group of 6 teenagers got hold of the stones. Their names were Jade, Kat, Darryl, Glenn, Erick and Peter...
