The House in Between

Glenn looked again at the address he held in his hand and the house that he saw before him. It was quaint and suited Kat well he thought. He noticed that there wasn't a second floor but there was a room that was situated on the roof of the garage. He wondered what Kat used it for. Probably storage if Kat hadn't changed much since Glenn knew her, she always had lots of stuff. He laughed wryly. He reviewed the last few days in his head. He had gotten to a coffee shop and as luck would have it he saw Marc enter with a friend or workmate. He only knew it was Marc from the newspaper photo's. He nearly fell off his stool though when he saw Michael looking angrily through the window glaring openly at Marc. A cold shiver had gone down his back. He had suspected Michael would show after he had gotten out but Glenn had hoped he was wrong. Glenn had loved Kat with all his heart and he blamed Michael for destroying his relationship with her. When he had heard about the wedding he was sad and relieved at the same time. He hadn't contacted Kat, he wasn't sure if it was appropriate. He seriously thought about it when news got to him that Michael was out on good behavior. Glenn knew then he just had to stop Michael destroying Kat's life again and decided to do so himself. He watched and waited and his hunch was right, he saw Michael pull up boldly in front of Kat's house that evening.

Jade had just managed to put both children down for the night and Darryl was doing something around the house so she had taken the time to make a cup of tea and sat herself at her desk with her sketchbook open. She flipped absentmindedly through it. She settled on the next blank page and sipped her tea. Jade then closed her eyes and cleared her mind then instinctivly reached out and grabbed a pencil and drew.

Michael watched the house like a hawk. He almost jumped out of his skin each time a light turned on or off. He used binoculars to peer into the house when he could. When the light in the room above the garage turned on Michael looked expectantly. It was one of the few rooms that didn't have thick curtains. He grinned when Kat's silhouette became visible. Her hair was down and he watched it flowing around her head transfixed.

"Why Kat didn't you wait for me?" He asked her.

He instantly reached down and stroked his pants, feeling the bulge respond to his touch.

"This is yours Kat, you can have it, oh won't you take it."

Michael groaned as he imagined Kat standing naked in the window. He watched her movements and continued to stroke himself. After a few minutes he undid his button and fly and let his penis spring out like a caged tiger. He felt the tip and tasted the moisture imagining it was Kat's. With Mr Mori always popping in and out of his apartment Michael hadn't had a chance to relieve his tension and now he couldn't contain himself. He rubbed and stroked whilst watching Kat and imagining things. He remembered how she looked so many years ago tied up and vulnerable. A few seconds later he came and he let his head rest against the chair seat feeling his heartbeat almost jumping through his chest and wishing again that he could hold Kat close to him.

"Look what you have done. You've made a mess on your steering wheel."

The now familiar voice came drifting over from the back seat. Michael quickly did up his pants and turned around to see Mr Mori.

"How the hell did you get in the car?"
"Never mind that, your slipping Michael, how could you be so stupid?"

Michael looked at the steering wheel sheepishly and then turned back to face Mr Mori but he was gone. Michael sighed and looked up to the window. It was dark now and it fitted his mood. Michael now felt dark and empty. He grabbed a few napkins and wiped the steering wheel. However that didn't stop it from feeling sticky and Michael cursed his stupity and cursed more that Mr Mori knew about it. He hit the roof when someone tapped on his window. He took a deep breath and then rolled the window down to be met by a bright light and when that moved out the way a policeman.

"Yes officer can I help you?"
"We received a report that you've been hanging around this address for the last two hours." Michael gulped then answered as calmly as he could
"I was on my way home sir when I felt tired so I thought it best if I pulled over and had a nap."
"Very admirable, but I suggest you move on now."
"Yes officer."

Michael started up the car and then placed his hands on the steering wheel trying not to let his disgust show. He pulled out and drove home leaving the window open and letting the cold keep him alert. He needed to feel the cold. He wondered who reported him and how on earth he was going to stop the steering wheel from feeling sticky. When he got home he washed his hands and crawled off to bed feeling very defeated.

Jade looked up from her drawing when she heard a soft tapping on her door. She turned to see nobody there but there were rose petals near her door. She smiled and got up. She followed the petals and was lead to the bathroom. The bath was filled complete with bubbles. The light was off but there were several candles lit and placed around the bathroom. Jade took a deep breath.

"Do you like?" Darryl asked slipping his arms around her waist.
"Yes." She replied turning and kissing him. "And I like the fact that you can still surprise me."
"Good"

Jade awoke the next morning with the sun streaming onto her bed. She rolled over and noticed Darryl had already gotten up. She could hear him downstairs with the children. She got up and put her slippers on before padding downstairs. She was heading for the lounge and spent the rest of the morning with Darryl and her children. After awhile she got changed and headed back to her room to do some pottery. She was behind on a few orders and wanted to work on them whilst she could.

"Good morning sis." Kat chirped from the doorway.
"You must have had a good night last night," Jade grinned.
"How do you know?"
"It's not morning." They laughed.

Kat watched Jade for awhile and then sat at Jade's desk. She looked at the sketchbook and noticed the cup of tea. She knew that the picture was done recently, most likely last night. She looked a little closer and noticed that it was her house she was looking at. She marveled at the detail, Kat was standing in the window of the storage room above the garage. She then let her eyes travel down and spotted a car in the picture. Kat reached out and touched the picture where the car was and then pulled back her hand as if she was burnt. Kat's sudden reaction made Jade look up.

"Everything okay?"
"Yes. No. I'm not sure." Jade stopped her pottering and waited for Kat to continue. "Do you even feel things Jade?"
"What do you mean?"
"When your in trouble or in pain I feel it, like when you were in labour."
"No I don't."
"Then how have you known when I was in trouble?"
"I saw it. I don't know how to explain it I just, I can see what's wrong."
"I can't do that."
"But you can feel?"
"Yes. I... I felt something from your picture, that's not happened before."
"What picture?"
"This one, of my house." Jade got up from behind the potters wheel and washed her hands before having a look at the picture Kat meant.
"I remember drawing last night but I hadn't looked at it yet."
"Must be an artist thing, I see what I'm drawing. Anyway what I felt was from the car here." Kat pointed and Jade peered at it.
"There's someone in it." Jade said and then went and found a magnifying glass.

She placed it over the car and the image of a person became easier to see. Easier enough to see that he was holding binoculars and looking directly at the window Kat was in. Jade dropped the magnifying glass.

"I've seen that persons face before, I know it." Jade flipped through the sketch book until she found the picture she drew the day of Jessica's birth. "There!"

The twins compare the man in the picture and whilst he was drawn at different angles they both agreed it was the same person. They both wondered what it meant and who he was, and why he looked so familiar.

"Damnit!" Mr Mori exclaimed and Michael hit the roof.
"How is it that you keep appearing and disappearing like this? You scared the shit out of me. And do you even use the door because I don't think I have seen you use the door."
"Shut up." Michael stared in stunned silence. He had never seen Mr Mori loose his cool. He smirked.
"Problem Mr Mori?" Michael asked innocently.
"They're getting to close to finding out their talents. Damn them."

Michael sniggered, causing Mr Mori to turn and glare at him.
"Something amusing, Michael?"
"Yes," he smirked. "You've been so worried about me watching Kat and now it doesn't matter."
Mr Mori glared at him.
"I think we may need to increase the stakes slightly," Mr Mori said, watching Michael with narrowed eyes. "I can give you a gift which will enable you to increase your perceptions of the twins - do you want it?"
"Yes!" Michael exclaimed greedily.
Mr Mori grinned wolfishly, waved his hand at Michael, then turned and left.
Michael stretched out on his bed, and sighed happily. Mr Mori would be gone for a while after that particular discussion, Michael thought, so now was the perfect time to go and do some investigating. Michael gathered the things he'd need, and left his apartment.

Kat left Jade's and headed for work. She smiled hello to Catie and Maya, and Catie nodded to let her know Marc was free. Kat tapped lightly on his closed office door, then waited for a few seconds and slipped in just as Marc closed the filing cabinet.
"Hola."
"Hailsa," Marc smiled, coming around from behind his desk to wrap his arms around Kat.
A few minutes later, Kat had told him all about being at Jade's, and what they'd discovered. Marc frowned.
"I always knew you were special, tarrishagh, don't you remember all that with Leo?"
Kat frowned.
"Hmm... yes... but..."
Marc smoothed her hair.
"I have to admit, though, this car has me a little worried."
"Yeah, me too. The face looks familiar, almost... But it's not ever big enough to get a really good look."
"What do you feel about it?"
"I feel scared, but I don't think that's actually anything other than..."
"And you said Jade doesn't feel things?"
"No... She says she sees things."
"Sees things?"
"When I was... with Michael. She said she saw where I was. The trees out the window that I could see."
"Didn't she get cut?"
"Yes... I think that was my fault though."
"How so?"
"I had retreated, but I hadn't taken this... power... in with me - it's everywhere. And because Jade and I have this link, it just transferred across..."
"Does she get it with anyone else?"
"Premonitions of danger? She said no."
"Do you?"
Kat thought for a while.
"Mine is different - when she is in trouble, I can physically feel what's happening."
"And the same for great pleasure?" Marc raised his eyebrows. "This is beginning to sound like a bad fantasy novel."
Kat chuckled softly.
"No, love, I don't feel Darryl," Kat laughed. "All our passion is strictly me for you."
"That's good then," Marc grinned. "So what are we going to do?"
"You and I are going to Jade's for dinner tonight, and we'll talk about it there."
"Do you think it'll be more generalisable?"
"I don't know love. Separately, no... I think it's something to do with us being twins that allows us to work our gifts on each other... I think... maybe together... we might be able to use it at will?"
Marc continued cuddling her in silence for a while, then kissed her when she pulled back a little.
"You are amazing," he told her softly. "And I love you more than my life."
Kat smiled up at him.
"I live for you, also."
"We have to work."
"I know. My last is at 4:30 today."
"I have a 5:00," Marc replied, glancing at the clock.
"I can occupy myself for half an hour," smiled Kat.
Marc smiled back at her, then kissed her.
"Nine days."
"I am well aware of that, love!"
Laughing, they parted, and Kat slipped into her office. She glanced at the clock, and her appointment sheet, then turned her attention to her case file in preparation for her client.

Michael parked a couple of blocks away, and walked to Kat and Marc's house slowly, keeping an eye on his surroundings. He was satisfied that he wasn't being observed as he reached the house, and turned up the driveway, then down the side of the house. It only took him a few moments to climb the gate and enter the back garden. He walked down the side of the garage, and stepped up onto the veranda at the back of the house. He examined the lock on the back door, and grinned. He produced his lock-picks, and the door was shortly open. Michael entered the kitchen, and looked around. The house was silent, and Michael knew there was nobody else home. He checked for any signs of an alarm system, and was pleased to discover that there wasn't one. He walked through the kitchen area to the sitting room, and started peeking into rooms. Towards the front of the house, he found the study, and beside that, the main bedroom. Michael slipped into the bedroom, and looked around. The bed was messily unmade, and he walked over and touched it, slightly saddened to discover it wasn't still warm. The contact with the bed expanded Michael's consciousness, and he breathed in sharply. This was obviously Mr Mori's gift - on the bed before him, lay Kat, with not a stitch on. Michael reached to touch her, and cursed as his hand went straight through her - he wasn't seeing anything but the energy pattern left by Kat that morning. Breaking contact with the bed caused the image to slowly fade, and Michael sat on the bed to keep the contact. Like a movie, he watched Kat's hair move, and her slowly awaken, and smile. Michael looked into her sleepy eyes, and read her lips as she said, "Morning, baby."
"Good morning, Kat," Michael whispered, then his eyes widened as Kat lifted a hand to caress him - but her hand didn't touch him - just hovered beside her, where Michael would be if he were laying beside her. She caressed the air, and her body arched in response to an invisible hand stroking her body. Michael felt a simultaneous surge of arousal and jealousy - how *dared* this invisible spirit touch *his* Kat?? Michael lay on the bed beside her, and watched as Kat's hand slid up his inner thigh. Michael gasped as the energy pattern caressed him, this time he felt a tingling as the energy touched him. Kat was kissing his chest, and Michael ripped open his shirt, buttons scattering in order to feel her mouth on his skin. The energy tingled and burned, and Michael watched as Kat moved her mouth over his chest, her hair trailing over his skin as her mouth moved down to his stomach. Her head moved slowly, and Michael realised he was stroking himself through his jeans. She was so close...
"Oh, yes, Kat," Michael whispered, fumbling with his belt.
Suddenly, she moved, lifted her mouth from his stomach and rolled over, onto her back, laughing. It took Michael several moments to figure out what had happened. "Oh no you don't," he commanded. "You will come back here and..."
Michael's voice trailed off as he realised that the invisible spirit was slowly becoming visible. The second energy pattern was stroking Kat, and she was moving with it, completely ignoring Michael. The hands were visible first, followed by the head, which was kissing her neck, and then the rest of the body was slowly filled in. A few minutes later, Michael recognised Marc. Marc was moving his hands over Kat's body, and had lowered his head to her breasts. When Michael realised what was going to happen, he flung himself backwards off the bed, breaking contact as he landed on the floor, the image fading quite quickly, but not fast enough that Michael didn't see Marc reach his destination.

Michael cursed. He realised he was trembling, and still very aroused. He needed to calm down, he realised, but couldn't help himself reaching out again. He touched the bed, and the images instantly snapped back into focus - this time accompanied by audio, as Kat sighed, and whispered Marc's name.
"I am going to have to kill him," Michael whispered, his eyes caught on the scene being played out before him. How *dare* he... And her. She has been defiled."
"I love you, Marc," whispered Kat, and Michael saw and heard the words.
"And I love you, tarrishagh."
Michael spun away from the bed, and thew himself at the wall to get the image out of his head. The voices and images faded even slower this time, and were joined by another set of images - fainter, and with no audio, but Kat was against the wall, and she wasn't standing on the ground. Michael pushed himself away from the wall, and ran from the room, stepping through the energy pattern by the front door, and studiously not looking in any of the rooms he passed. He threw open a door and entered, and was surprised to find himself in the laundry. A few moments later, Kat's energy appeared, putting things in the washing machine. The other half of the energy wasn't apparent, and Michael breathed a sigh of relief. Michael saw the apparition move to a basket in the corner, and he mimicked it. In the basket were clothes, and Michael searched through it until he found a pair of Kat's underwear. Then he leaned against the wall and relieved himself as he watched her going through the motions of doing the washing. After he came, Michael dropped the soiled underwear onto the floor, and dug deeper into the basket until he found another pair. He lifted them to his face and breathed in, then gave a satisfied groan. He stuffed Kat's underwear into his pocket, collected his other belongings, and slipped out into the backyard. He pulled the door shut behind him, then jogged to the back fence. Never use the same exit and entry, Michael thought. A few minutes later, he was back in his car, on his way home.
